Sorry folks, airspace is closed, the moose out front should have told you.

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I got caught Thursday with Chicago O’Hare’s airspace being closed down for Obama and his fundraisers.  I guess was better than getting caught in the airspace AND having the Kennedy expressway shutdown for his motorcade.  I guess…  Because we didn’t have enough fuel to circle for an hour, only for a half-hour, I ended up diverted to Milwaukee.  It all turned out in the end, but this is the third time in the last few months that it would have been faster to drive from Detroit than to take American Airlines.  (I drove one, flew the other two.)  I had caught an earlier flight, so I was actually still 49 minutes ahead of schedule, but that is only because the earlier flight was 3 hours 5 minutes earlier!

Duck Soup

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

We saw Duck Soup in Grant Park last night.  The weather held, other than a few sprinkles, and it is hard to argue with 70 degree weather, in Chicago, in July!  There are more movies in Grant Park are part of the Outdoor Film Festival.  If you have never gone, stay away!  I don’t want it to be too crowded.  This is actually one of the nice, pre-paid, entertainment opportunities in Chicago, in the summer.  It gets people out and about, and the crowd is pretty friendly.

Mrs. Teasdale: Oh, your Excellency!
Rufus T. Firefly: You’re not so bad yourself.

American Airlines sent me a code for free WiFi on board their planes for the next few weeks.  So, I am trying it out.  I’ll update more, later, but figured I should get at least one post in from altitude!

iPhone

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

As much as I am not a fan of the three letter phone company whose name I shall not utter, I got an iPhone today.  The iPhone’s first job is going to be to go on loan to the Infrastructure team for a few weeks to help figure out what it takes to really support an iPhone in the enterprise.  At that point, it will come home with me and will replace my venerable World Edition Blackberry.  The Blackberry has been a decent phone, although it has what I will lovingly call “issues” in syncing to the MacBook Pro.  (Mail is fine, but tasks are useless and contacts are just a little better.)  I have enjoyed the iPod Touch, so it is my hope that the iPhone 3G S will be even better.

I’ll keep you posted.

Oleophobic

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Specs on the newest Apple iPhone display include:

  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating

OK, the word “oleophobic” makes perfect sense since it just means it is resistant to oil, but I can’t help but translate it to “having a fear of butter substitutes.”  I give Apple credit, they have someone who took his/her SAT vocabulary preparation seriously!

Fun optical illusion

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Just for fun.  Look at this.  Is it moving?  Think it is the picture itself?  Stare at one point in the picture and that part will stop moving.  Freaky, huh?
